Inhibition testing is conducted using a technologically advanced 20-channel electrolytic respirometer. Activated sludge biomass can be obtained directly from a client's facility and then acclimated to the material of concern to minimize potential inhibitory effects. Alternately, a synthetic wastewater can be prepared in the laboratory using a commercial seed and then dosed with the material of concern at multiple test concentrations to simulate anticipated wastewater flow or chemical use rate. Biomass oxygen utilization rates are monitored in the batch test vessels and cumulative oxygen consumption is measured continuously throughout testing. Test evaluations are routinely completed in less than 24 hours and provide valuable data on potential for inhibitory or toxic effects of new chemical or wastewater additions on wastewater organisms.
